Deciding what to do about pregnancy can be simple for some and more complicated for others.
If you decide this isn't the right time to have a child, you have options. You can end the pregnancy or consider adoption.
We're here to support you. We use a nonjudgmental approach to help you find the best option for your body and your life.
There are two ways of terminating the pregnancy:
Medication abortions, which stop the pregnancy from growing.
- Usually an option up to around 11 weeks.
- Up to 98% effective.
- What to expect: You take the medication at home. Within 24 hours, you'll have heavy, period-like bleeding and cramps, which will pass the pregnancy.
- Ideal for: Those who have difficulty getting to a clinic or prefer to pass the pregnancy at home without a procedure.
In-office procedures (also called surgical abortions), which remove the pregnancy from your uterus.
- Usually an option up to around 14 to 16 weeks.
- What to expect: After giving you pain medication, the provider will put instruments into your vagina and uterus and use gentle suction to remove the pregnancy. You will be able to go home soon after the procedure.
- Ideal for: Those who want a short procedure performed by trained providers in a clinic.
Both are safe, though some states have laws restricting abortions. Depending on how far along you are, you may need a procedure.
If you decide you want to continue, your first step is to make an appointment with an OB-GYN.
Let us know if you need help finding one or if any questions come up before your appointment.
While waiting for your first appointment, start or continue taking a prenatal vitamin.

Adoption allows you to continue with the pregnancy but not raise the child.
There are two types:
- A closed adoption, where limited information is shared between the birthing parent and the adoptive family.
- An open adoption, which is more common and allows both parties to develop the relationship that's best for them.
You can explore various adoption paths, including state agencies, adoption lawyers, or in-family adoption. Learn more here.
