Everyone holds beliefs or thoughts that keep us from making positive changes in our lives. Â These are called limiting beliefs.
An example of a limiting belief is feeling like you can't do something because you aren't smart, athletic, or strong enough.
Neuroplasticity is the brainâs ability to form new neural connections. This is how your brain changes the way you think and act.
These connections are formed by repeating new behaviors until they become habits. Â Through neuroplasticity, you can make efforts to change your limiting beliefs into positive thoughts that help you make healthy life changes.
Try at least one of the following exercises each day for a week, and record your experience.
When someone pays you a compliment or you receive recognition at work, write down the positive things that were said about you and keep them in a folder to read when you're feeling down on yourself.
When you notice yourself having a negative thought, take a minute to challenge it. Â For example, if you notice yourself thinking, "I can't do anything right!" think of a few things you're good at or that makes you feel proud.
End each day by verbalizing one thing you did that brings you joy, satisfaction, or a sense of accomplishment.
Make an effort to speak to yourself in the same voice you use when speaking to your loved ones.
Limiting beliefs become obstacles that keep us from moving forward, but we can take steps to change them and form new habits.
