Caring for a newborn takes a lot of time and energy. Â Leaning on others during this time can make things easier:
- Ask for help. Â Let your friends and family know when you need rest.
- Accept help when it's offered.
- Tell your partner how you feel.
- Connect with other new parents through classes or support groups.
- Make time for activities you enjoyed before your baby arrived.
- If you feel very sad, anxious, or overwhelmed, reach out to your health care providers.
Give yourself grace as you adjust to life post-birth.
Remember:
- Your body goes through major changes during and after pregnancy. Â Be kind to yourself and realistic about how your body should look or feel.
- Your sleep schedule and daily routine will also change. Â Try to be flexible and know you'll eventually find your new rhythm.
- Do not feel pressured to entertain visitors. Â It's OK to excuse yourself for a nap or to feed your baby.
- It's normal to experience a range of emotions as your hormones change and you bond with your baby. Â But if you don't feel well, reach out to your health care providers.
Don't forget to take care of yourself during this time. Focus on helping your body heal, ask for help, and try to stay flexible.
